Fundraiser organized for Burleson officer shot in line of duty

Many people are offering to help Burleson police officer Joshua Lott and his family as he recovers from being shot yesterday morning.

Ofc. Lott was shot three times during a traffic stop early yesterday morning; and despite one of those shots going through his neck, he is expected to recover.

DeAnna Phillips with Burleson Police says they're still trying to assess what Officer Lott and his family need.

"Ofc. Lott is still in the hospital, so I think that his family's not really quite sure what kind of support they may be needing in the future," says Phillips.

One thing that the family could use is money.

"Some community organizations are trying to organize a gift card drive for his family," says Phillips, "which is a great idea because then they can use it as needed."

One organization raising money for Lott and his family is the Blue Family Fund.

Phillips says there is one thing that the family doesn't need at this time.

"What we don't want to have happen is we get too many perishable things right now that Ofc. Lott's family can't use," she says.

As for what the department is doing to assist Ofc. Lott and his family, "

Individuals and organizations looking to help are asked to coordinate those efforts with the Burleson Police Department by emailing Senior Administrative Assistant Lisa Cauthern.
