City crews in Garland have started installing more than 700 new street signs. They're going up at major intersections across the city that have traffic lights.
The signs have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years. The signs that are going up now will replace ones that were installed between 2000 and 2005. The new signs will also feature an updated design.
"They hang up on the signalized intersection poles, so they require bucket trucks and guys going up in the air," said City of Garland Signs and Markers Supervisor Mike Hilton.
A two-person city crew can usually replace the signs at two intersections each day if the weather is good. That means it could take several months for all 730 signs to be replaced.
"We're going to try to have them all done by the end of the year," Hilton said. "It's a good task, but I think we can get it done."
