A dozen North Texas school districts begin classes this week, and one of them begins today.
More than 55,000 students will return to 71 campuses in the Garland district today.
Garland is the second-largest district in Dallas County, the fifth-largest in the Dallas-Worth Metroplex and the 15th largest in Texas. High school classes start at 7;30 a.m. while elementaries start at 8:10 a.m. and middle schools begin at 8:50 a.m.
Also, while the vast majority of Dallas public schools begin next week, 41 campuses open today under what the district calls its Intersession calendar.
This is designed to create time for five additional Intersession weeks spread throughout the year.
Mesquite students start Tuesday. Four districts open Wednesday including Allen, Frisco, Plano and Lewisville - and six on Thursday including Crowley, Denton, Forney, Little Elm, Waxahachie and Wylie.
