The Garland Health Department has identified a resident with Monkeypox.
Officials say the person lives in Garland and went to a Dallas hospital when they began showing symptoms. The presence of the virus was confirmed by laboratory tests performed by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Health department officials say the patient had recently travelled outside of the United States. The person had also been in contact with someone who attended the Daddyland Festival in Dallas who had tested positive for the virus. They say there is a concern for local transmission of the virus.
Symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes and a rash. The virus can be spread through close contact with someone who is infected or through contact with contaminated items such as clothing or bedding.
