The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD took no action on a trustee who stirred up controversy by discussing the ouster of a principal at a Republican school board forum.

The special board meeting was called last Friday, after video surfaced of Trustee Tammy Nakamura telling a Republican school board forum that James Whitfield was ousted as principal of Colleyville Heritage High School because of, in her words, "his activism."

Under the separation agreement reached last fall, neither Whitfield nor the board would be making any additional public comment on the manner.

Immediately after returning from executive session, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board President Casey Ford made a motion to adjourn, which a majority of the board members agreed to.

Prior to the executive session in the special meeting, seven people addressed the board about Nakamura's comments, including those she made that mention what they perceive to be a hit list of teachers.

Nakamura told the forum that she has a list of teachers who need to be removed from the classroom because they're, quote, "poison."

While the agenda indicated that the board would discuss possible discipline of a public officer or employee, it did not identify Nakamura by name.

The agenda item under Executive Session read, "551.074: to deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline or dismissal of a public officer or employee or to hear complaints or charges against a public officer or employee."

On at least three occasions, Ford interrupted the speakers and asked them to keep their comments to the agenda item.

In the settlement agreed to last fall, Whitfield remains on paid administrative leave until August of 2023, at which time his resignation will take effect.
