An elderly man is okay but only after a near-death experience in Forney over the weekend.
Officials say the man's pick-up was swamped by the swift current of the Trinity River and the elderly driver was himself swept away.
Forney and Kaufman County first responders were quickly sent but a Good Samaritan named Daniel Washburn was driving by and realized the man was in serious trouble.
Hearing him call for help, Washburn jumped into the fast-moving water, grabbing onto the older man and holding on to a root until police officers and firefighters arrived to haul them both out.
The professionals are quick to point out that Washburn is the hero who saved the man's life.
