Score a win for Governor Greg Abbott in his battle with proposed data centers in Texas.
One such proposal is now not going through.
The governor said in a statement Thursday that the proposed data center from Diode in Henderson County, southeast of Dallas, did not meet his office's new directives or community expectations so they pulled out.
"Data centers that want to do business in Texas must meet a clear standard. This project did not," Governor Abbott said. "Texas requires companies to put communities first, protect our natural resources and power grid, and respect the quality of life of our residents."
The center was proposed for an area near Cedar Creek Lake.
Governor Abbott recently ordered all data center proposals would add to the state's electric capacity and would not drain the local water supply.
"Diode did the right thing by withdrawing their project. If other data center developments refuse to meet these standards, I expect them to do the same," Governor Abbott said.
