Texas Governor Greg Abbott is calling for an investigation into Atmos energy after thousands of customers were left without heat during the recent bitter cold snap.

On Wednesday, Governor Abbott sent letters to both Attorney General Ken Paxton and Railroad Commission of Texas Chairman Christi Craddick calling on their agencies to investigate the natural gas distribution company.

Abbott says the company failed to prepare for the storm and that left thousands of north and central Texans without heat.

Last week, many customers reportedly had low gas pressure drop so low, their furnaces wouldn’t work properly, or even run at all.

Atmos has released an apology statement in response, saying they fell short and that they’re working with regulators to make sure it won’t happen in the future.
