The new laws aimed at cracking down on street racing will take effect in Texas soon, and Governor Abbott was in Fort Worth yesterday to sign the new measure.

The laws add new offenses and let police seize cars used during street racing and takeovers. Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes says these laws highlight how law enforcement, state lawmakers and the Governor can work together.

Department of Public Safety Director Steve Mccraw says the laws will also deter street takeovers by adding punishments for people who take part even if they're not driving.

They say street racing and takeovers can put other drivers and pedestrians at risk, citing a case in Fort Worth back in January where a couple were killed, leaving behind three kids.
