GRAPEVINE (1080 KRLD) - Thanks to modern technology, Grapevine Police were able to quickly find a stolen FedEx truck.
The truck was stolen last Friday.
"(The driver) was on one of his routes delivering a package," says Amanda McNew, spokeswoman for the Grapevine Police Department; "and when he went to return to his truck, it was missing."
The truck was full of packages, and the driver couldn't even call for help right away.
"He left his phone in the vehicle as well," says McNew, "so he couldn't even call his boss to locate it."
Fortunately, all FedEx trucks have GPS trackers on them, so it only took police a few minutes to find the truck.
"They actually saw the suspect in the back standing there by a lot of discarded packages, just opening them and then taking things out as he could," says McNew.
The suspect is identified as Matthew Escobar, 37.
Escobar was arrested following a brief foot chase.
"Not only did they catch the suspect, but they also went back and made sure that they got any of the stolen items in the packages, so that the company could get them to the people who need them," McNew says.
Since the stolen packages have to be processed as evidence, there will be a delay in getting them to their recipients.
"We did find one package that was full of medication for someone," says McNew, "and our officer went face-to-face to that individual to make sure they didn't need that medication right away and that they understood what was happening."
