A family of four was in the other vehicle, a couple and their small children. They were all hurt when their pick-up was rear-ended by a Grand Prairie man named Tyler Hampton.

The impact sent the family's SUV tumbling over a guard rail. Joshua and Brooklyn Pierite were rushed to the hospital along with their daughters, ages 2 and 4. Joshua Pierite severely injured his leg in the crash and 2-year-old Mi'lania Pierite is at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth in a coma and on a ventilator.

Hampton was tested for alcohol and was arrested on multiple counts of intoxicated assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

“We’re only two days out from Christmas and now instead of spending the holiday together, this family’s spending it in the hospital, wondering if a 2-year-old’s going to pull through,” Arlington police media relations coordinator Tim Ciesco said. “It’s incredibly sad.”
