A Grand Prairie police officer has died overnight, killed in an on-duty crash while chasing a car with a fake paper dealer tag.

According to Grand Prairie Police, just before 11 p.m. Monday police officer Brandon Tsai crashed into a light pole. He was rushed to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where he died this morning.

Tsai was 32-years-old and had been with Grand Prairie police just since January. Before coming to Texas, he served five years with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Grand Prairie police are not saying if the driver Tsai was pursuing has been captured.

"Our nation lost a hero last night" said Grand Prairie Police Chief Daniel Scesney.
