The body of a missing 5-year-old boy in Grand Prairie was found submerged in a creek near his home on Monday afternoon, police say. Santiago Aburto Gonzalez had last been last seen at his family's apartment Sunday night.

At about 7 p.m. Sunday, police say Gonzalez walked out of his family's apartment in the 2400 block of W. Pioneer Parkway. He was found in South Cottonwood Creek -- about 2 miles away.

Authorities launched an extensive search effort, deploying drones, K-9 units, and divers to comb the area. The Grand Prairie Public Safety Dive Team located his body during a manual search, as the creek's zero visibility made the task especially challenging.

The case fell short of the criteria for an Amber Alert, and police said no foul play was suspected.
