Grand Prairie Police say a man broke into his ex-girlfriend's home Sunday morning, and she shot him during the assault. Police say the man, whose name has not been released, forced his way into the victim's house about 5:45 Sunday morning.

Police were called to the home on Avenue E in a neighborhood south of Hensley Field and west of Mountain Creek Lake after the shooting. They say the man appears to have forced his way into the house and started assaulting the woman.

Police say the two had previously been in a relationship.

Grand Prairie Police say the woman got her gun and shot the man. He died at the house; the woman was taken to the hospital but should recover.

Police say the shooting appears to be self-defense, but the case is being referred to the Dallas County district attorney for review. Monday morning, the name of the suspect had not yet been released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner.
