The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD has reached agreements with both the City of Grapevine and the City of Colleyville to provide School Resource Officers at all of its campuses.
The GCISD has had police officers at its high schools for several years. Now, that program will be expanded to all middle and elementary schools to comply with a new state law on school security.
House Bill 3 requires school districts to have at least one armed security officer at each campus during normal school hours.
To comply with the law, the GCISD has arranged for the Grapevine Police Department to provide officers on campuses in the City of Grapevine. The Colleyville Police Department will provide officers at schools in Colleyville.
"We are grateful for the partnership and support of the cities we serve," said Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz. "We’re proud that our local men and women in blue will be the ones fulfilling this safety role, and we look forward to welcoming them to the GCISD family."
Classes start in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD on August 15th.
