Police in Grapevine will have additional officers in the neighborhood surrounding Dove Elementary School after a student reported a safety concern.
The child was walking home on Tuesday when a man drove up next to him and yelled at him to get into his car. The boy ran off and made it home safely.
Police say he describes the vehicle as a black Jeep or SUV with an empty spare tire rack on the back. Investigators are asking anyone in the area who sees a vehicle matching that description to contact the Grapevine Police Department.
They're also urging parents to talk to their kids about some common safety precautions they can take while walking home. They say kids should be aware of their surroundings and have a list of places they can run to along their route home if they are threatened. They say kids should not hesitate to run away from a situation where they feel unsafe and should tell a trusted adult about any threats.
