Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, convicted in the 2018 murder of her neighbor Botham Jean, is scheduled to be released from prison on parole next week.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice records show Guyger will be released Oct. 16 from the Christina Melton Crain Unit in Gatesville, Texas. The scheduled release date remains subject to change, according to state corrections records.
Guyger, 38, has served roughly seven years of her 10-year prison sentence.
The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles approved Guyger’s release earlier this year after previously denying her parole in 2024.
Guyger was convicted of murder in 2019 for the fatal shooting of Jean inside his apartment. Guyger testified during her trial that she mistook Jean’s apartment for her own, which was located one floor directly below, and believed he was an intruder.
