H-E-B gives away 276,000 free reusable bags for Earth Day

H-E-B is giving away 276,000 free reusable bags today at stores across Texas as part of its annual Earth Day celebration.

The giveaway began at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, with customers at any H-E-B, Central Market, Joe V’s Smart Shop or Mi Tienda location eligible for one complimentary bag while supplies last.

This year’s limited-edition tote features a scenic design of Garner State Park along the Frio River in the Texas Hill Country. It marks the third and final installment in the grocer’s three-year series highlighting different Texas state parks.

H-E-B has distributed more than 3.4 million reusable bags since launching the Earth Day promotion in 2008. The bags are made from 100 percent ocean-bound plastic, supporting the company’s long-standing commitment to reducing single-use plastic waste and encouraging sustainable shopping habits.

The promotion arrives as Texans mark Earth Day with community cleanups, recycling drives and environmental education events statewide. H-E-B partners are handing out the totes at store entrances as a simple way to thank customers and promote everyday eco-friendly choices.

The giveaway has no impact on store operations beyond the free distribution and is expected to end quickly once supplies run out at individual locations. No injuries or other incidents have been reported in connection with the event.
