Dallas (1080 KRLD)- Designed to help local women achieve their goals of financial independence through homeownership, Habitat for Humanity has begun with their second year of Women Build Dallas.
According to the Dallas area Habitat for Humanity site, their ultimate goal is to reach $500,000 through fundraising in order "to provide new affordable home construction, neighborhood empowerment, and financial education" for local women and their families.
They go on to explain that the Women Build Dallas initiative is driven by the fact that "69% are women head of household and 41% of those women are single moms."
Along with Women Build chair Kelly Ann Doherty, the nonprofit's team gathered recently to begin on their first build of the year for mother of two Tracey Garrison.
Per NBCDFW, Garrison has been taking Habitat's educational courses over the past year and will be working on the construction of her new home alongside Habitat volunteers.
