Having trouble listening to KRLD on Alexa? Here’s what to know and how to fix it

KRLD has confirmed a problem affecting some Alexa users who have enabled Alexa Plus. When those listeners say, “Play 1080 KRLD,” Alexa may incorrectly play 105.3 The Fan, which is a different station, instead of NewsRadio 1080 KRLD.

As a dangerous winter storm approaches North Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD will be by your side so you're prepared, not scared. Listen to our expanded storm center coverage on your radio or via a desktop, tablet, phone, favorite app -- including Audacy, TuneIn or IHeart -- or smart speaker.

However, some listeners using Amazon Alexa smart speakers may be experiencing an issue when trying to tune in.

What’s happening

KRLD has confirmed a problem affecting some Alexa users who have enabled Alexa Plus. When those listeners say, “Play 1080 KRLD,” Alexa may incorrectly play 105.3 The Fan, which is a different station, instead of NewsRadio 1080 KRLD.

The issue appears to be related to how Alexa Plus interprets station requests and is not a problem with KRLD’s audio stream itself.

How to listen to KRLD on Alexa right now

There are a few easy ways to make sure you’re hearing the correct station:

Option 1: Add “from Audacy” to your request
When asking Alexa to play KRLD, be specific:

“Alexa, play 1080 KRLD from Audacy.”

This directs Alexa to the correct stream.

Option 2: Turn off Alexa Plus
If you’ve enabled Alexa Plus, you can ask your device:

“Alexa, turn off Alexa Plus.”

After disabling it, try saying:

“Alexa, play 1080 KRLD.”

Other ways to listen during the storm

If smart speaker issues persist, KRLD remains available on multiple platforms:

🔊 AM radio at 1080

🔊 Streaming on the Audacy app

🔊 Smartphone apps including iHeart and TuneIn

🔊 Car radios and connected vehicle systems

Why this matters now

With dangerous winter weather expected across North Texas, staying connected to live, local information is critical. KRLD’s StormCenter team will be providing continuous updates on road conditions, power outages, school and business closures, and safety guidance throughout the storm.

KRLD engineers and partners are aware of the Alexa issue, and listeners are encouraged to use the workarounds above to stay connected.

For the latest weather updates and listening options, stay with DFW’s Severe Weather Station, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD.
