The Dallas Police Department has commissioned its latest officer, the beautiful chestnut police Horse "Hawk" who is now partnered up with Senior Corporal Tracy Morgan.
Commanders say "Hawk" has passed all of his training requirements and is officially a police horse on the department's mounted unit.
This year is the 40th anniversary of the Dallas Police Department Mounted Unit which is headquartered at Fair Park.
The horses and officers serve ceremonial purposes like parade but they are also an active component of law enforcement, going places like alleys, back streets, apartment complexes and other areas which might be too constricted for a squad car.
Due to the height of the rider on horseback, the officer can see and be seen, enhancing police presence.
