Two therapeutic treatments are widely available in the state of Texas. Those diagnosed with the virus need a doctor's prescription ore referral to get the IV treatments Bamlanivimab or the Regeneron Cocktail. Seth Christensen with the Texas Division of Emergency Management says "hospital systems across our state are at max capacity. These therapeutics, if patents catch the Covid onset with the first ten days and are infused, this will help keep some of those high risk patients out of hospitals."
Beds are scarce. Covid-19 patients currently take up more than 20 % of hospital beds in Texas.
Christensen says these drugs can be life saving. "It helps the patients. Folks that I know personally that have received this infusion say they feel much better very quickly after receiving their infusion."
The infusion sites are mostly at clinics, hospitals and pharmacies. There are 11 state supported centers which offer the drugs for free. Quantities of the drugs at each site in Texas are updated daily at Meds TDEM.
