Hood County has the first case of measles in Texas in four years.
The Texas Department of Health Services confirms that a young child who is a resident of Hood County was recently diagnosed with measles.
Officials say the child had no history of travel to an area where measles is spreading and no known exposure to a person with measles. The child has been treated and is recovering.
This is the first confirmed case of measles in Texas since travel-related outbreaks in 2019, which led to 23 cases. The department also says the measles virus is transmitted by direct contact with infectious droplets or by airborne spread when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes.
