Hood County commissioners are scheduled today to formally proclaim a two-mile stretch of Williamson Road south of Granbury as “Charlie Kirk Parkway,” honoring the late conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA.
The measure is expected during the county’s regular meeting on Tuesday and reflects local support for the designation.
The renaming comes in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination in September 2025 during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Kirk’s death prompted national discussion and local memorials, including efforts in Hood County to commemorate his life and work.
Williamson Road, a rural county thoroughfare just south of the Granbury city limits, will carry the honorary name following the commissioners’ proclamation. Supporters have characterized the move as a way to recognize Kirk’s influence in conservative circles, particularly among younger activists, and to cement his legacy in the region.
The decision has drawn both local attention and wider discussion online, with residents debating the significance of naming public infrastructure for national figures. The Hood County commissioners’ action today represents a formal step in that process and will be recorded in county minutes once adopted.
Last September, a county commission in Lake County, Florida, northwest of Orlando designated a Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway.
