Houston police respond to school shooting; employee shot by former student

HOUSTON (1080 KRLD)- Houston police responded to an active shooting situation in which a former student fired at a school employee at YES Prep Southwest Secondary school.

Around 11:45 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at the school located at 4400 Anderson Road at Hiram Clarke, according to Houston police tweets.

Around 1 p.m., YES Prep Southwest Secondary school confirmed via Facebook that the suspect in custody opened fire inside the school and no students were injured during the incident. They urged parents to pick up their students at W. Fuqua and Hiram Clarke were police staged area for pick up.

During a press release, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said an employee of the school was shot and wounded by a former student.

The 25-year-old suspect entered YES Prep Southwest Secondary by shooting a door and then shot the unidentified school employee in the back.

The identities of either victim or suspect have not been released at this time.

The wounded employee was transported to a hospital after receiving aid from police on scene.
