A typical holiday meal hovers around 2,500 to 3,000 calories and that doesn't include the starters, seconds, or thirds.
The heavy meals and all of the seasonal parties can lead to food hangovers and food remorse. The key to a guilt-free holiday: moderation, not deprivation says Cooper Clinic Dietitian Meridan Zerner.
"A little bit of planning to actually enjoy some of your favorite foods and then give some thought to how to manage the rest of the food landscape goes a long way," Zerner says.
She recommends eating a small snack with a healthy carb and a little protein before parties and get-togethers; Offering guests veggies and fruits and staying hydrated and active during the holiday season.
And remember, if you overdo it, you can always pick up your healthy habits the next day.
