How to never forget a name

When you forget someone's name, do you admit it? Do you just call them "Bud" or "Partner" or "Buckaroo?"

Let's never let that embarrassment happen again.

KRLD's John Liddle talked with Dr. Ivan Misner on how to never forget a name. Here are his tips:

BONUS: Stop saying you are "bad at remembering names." Dr. Misner says anyone can learn to improve this skill.

Now here are the tips:

1.  Repetition is key. When you are first introduced to someone, ask them to repeat their name (maybe with some emphasis on how their name is pronounced); this helps you connect the face with the name. "Hi! It's great to meet you, Jamison. It is pronounced Jamison, right?"

2. Use their name in conversation. At the beginning of a conversation with them, listen to what they are saying and then respond by using their name. "Wow, Jamison, that sounds amazing! Are you on Instagram? I'd love to stay in touch." Then you have another touch point, knowing their handle...which often includes their name. During this step - make sure to stay engaged and present!

3. Connect them with other people and say their name. Say you're at a party. Connecting a new acquaintance with someone you're with can help you remember them even more. When you are introducing two people, use their names when they first meet. "Sara, I'd like you to meet Jamison. Jamison is a big soccer fan!"

4. Dedicate it to memory. When you are back home, review your meeting and try to remember what that person looked like and what they were saying and doing. You may want to send a quick "nice to meet you" message online to help you remember the conversation you had with them.

Dr. Ivan Misner holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior and his latest book, Who's in Your Room? The Question That Will Change Your Life, teaches readers how their social and professional circles impact their levels of happiness, success and fulfillment.
