This World Cup was an opportunity for the well-known Hunt family to make good on their father Lamar Hunt's wishes.
"My dad said his biggest singular regret of World Cup 1994 was not getting World Cup games in Kansas City," FC Dallas President Dan Hunt said.
Both Dan Hunt who runs FC Dallas and Clark Hunt who runs the Kansas City Chiefs knew their father Lamar wanted Kansas City to be included in the World Cup after not getting the opportunity in 1994.
"I could tell it really hurt him because he wanted that for the community," Dan Hunt said. "It is us fulfilling on a promise that we made to him before he passed away."
This time, Kansas City was able to join both Dallas and Houston for a region that saw 22 matches overall in the past five weeks.
Kansas City was, by far, the smallest host city in the United States compared to the rest.
