An infant has died from injuries suffered in a rollover crash in Arlington over the weekend.

Arlington Police say a Ford Escape cut in front of an 18-wheeler on eastbound I-20 near the U.S. 287 interchange Sunday afternoon.

The 18-wheeler hit the back of the SUV, causing it to go off the roadway and roll over several times down an embankment.

Investigators say there were seven people inside the Escape, which is designed to only seat five.

Among those inside the SUV was a nine-month-old boy, and police say he was riding unrestrained on someone's lap.

The boy, identified as Zadqiuel Hector Escamilla Perez, died from his injuries at Cook Children's Medical Center Tuesday morning.

Police are still investigating why the Escape veered in front of the 18-wheeler.

Under state law, all children eight years old and younger are required to be in a child safety seat, unless they're taller than 4'9" tall.
