An Irving couple was found guilty Monday of conspiring to commit wire fraud in a multimillion-dollar investment scheme that targeted more than 700 people, including Hispanic victims, federal prosecutors said.
Marina Brooks, 70, and Charles Brooks, 74, were accused of selling fraudulent investments in cryptocurrency and entertainment ventures and taking about $9.5 million from investors.
Prosecutors said the couple made false promises that private company shares would increase in value and that their cryptocurrency investments carried no risk.
The Brooks' face up to 20 years in federal prison. They have not yet been sentenced.
