An Irving man has received the maximum sentence for killing three people, including a 9-year-old girl, in a wrong-way crash.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's office says 49-year-old Sione Nusi pleaded guilty to three counts of intoxication manslaughter and got 20 years on each count. Nusi will serve those three sentences concurrently.
The tragic incident occurred in August 2020 when Nusi was driving the wrong way on Loop 820 in Haltom City and collided head-on with another car. The crash killed a young girl and her parents.
Despite suffering life-threatening injuries and being airlifted to a hospital, Nusi survived.
Nusi later admitted to drinking beer and consuming Kava, a plant extract known for its sedative effects.
