IRVING (1080 KRLD) - We're learning new information on what led to a deadly officer-involved shooting in Irving.

It all started Thursday evening when Carlos Munguia, 40, confronted Juan Carlos Piedra Ceballos in the parking lot of the Flats at 183 apartments near 183 and Belt Line Rd.

"(He) was having no conversation with that victim, walked up to his vehicle and just began shooting into the car," says Ofc. Rovert Reeves, Irving PD spokesman.

Ceballos died at the scene.

Witnesses identified Munguia; and the following evening, fugitive unit officers found him in a grassy area of 183 near the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

"He turned, pulled his handgun out that was loaded, and pointed at the officers, and those three officers did fire at the suspect," says Ofc. Reeves.

Munguia died at a hospital a short time later.

Reeves says following the deadly shooting the night before, time was of the essence in finding Munguia.

"Our fugitive unit was trying to track him down," Reeves says. "This is definitely someone we didn't want to just put a warrant out for and hope that we found him in a later date. He had already shown his willingness to kill somebody. He still was known to have the weapon on his person, and that's why our officers were looking for him to protect the public."

Reeves says we may never know what led to the deadly shooting from 24 hours earlier.

"Unfortunately, the victim is deceased and our suspect is deceased," says Reeves. "So we may not know exactly what provoked or caused that initial shooting for him to come down and confront him."
