It's a scam Irving police say they are noticing more and more in their city and it involves Facebook Marketplace and used trucks.
Irving Police say at least 6 trucks were advertised on the Facebook Marketplace for sale. The problem is they had fake VIN numbers and the owners even went so far as to create fake title documents to make the sale look legitimate.
The good news is that the auto theft unit with the Irving Police Department says they intercepted the vehicles before a sale could take place.
The department is warning potential customers to do some due diligence before any purchase online. They say in most cases, buyers will not know they have been duped until they go to the DMV to register the vehicle and find out its already been registered.
