Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is serving 30 days in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center in Dallas after violating his probation by testing positive for THC. He was booked into the Dallas County jail Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 2026, and is scheduled for release on June 16.

Court records show Rice failed a routine drug screening Tuesday morning. The positive test for THC violated terms of his probation stemming from a high-speed multi-car crash on U.S. Highway 75 in Dallas in March 2024. Rice pleaded guilty in July 2025 to two third-degree felony charges — collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. As part of that plea deal, he received five years of deferred adjudication probation and was ordered to serve 30 days in jail at some point during that period, along with paying more than $115,000 in restitution to victims.

The 2024 crash involved Rice driving a rented Lamborghini at high speeds while racing another vehicle, leading to a six-car pileup that injured multiple people. He left the scene before police arrived but later took responsibility. The NFL suspended him for the first six games of the 2025 season under its personal conduct policy.

Rice, 26, was taken into custody in the 194th Judicial District Court. He will miss the Chiefs’ voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp while incarcerated. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the violation and activation of the jail sentence.

This marks the latest chapter in Rice’s off-field legal issues. No additional charges were filed in connection with the probation violation.
