Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the team is giving serious thought to tinting the large west-facing glass windows at AT&T Stadium in Arlington to cut late-afternoon sun glare that has long affected players.

Jones made the comments during a training camp interview with FOX 4 reporters over the weekend. He noted the difference between considering a change and making one, but added that the organization likes some of the effects of the tinting used during the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches at the stadium.

“We’re giving that a thought,” Jones said.

The $1.2 billion stadium’s east-west orientation allows low sun angles to stream through the massive end-zone glass panels during many fall afternoon games. Players on both teams have complained that the glare can make it difficult to track the ball. In a November 2024 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said he could not see a pass because of the sun.

For years Jones resisted calls for curtains or other permanent fixes, arguing the natural light was part of the stadium’s design and that both teams faced the same conditions. Curtains have been used for concerts and other events, but never for Cowboys games under his direction.

During the World Cup, FIFA temporarily used tinting and, for at least one match, black curtains on the west side to eliminate the problem. Jones indicated the temporary solution left a positive impression.

No final decision has been announced, and any permanent tinting would still need to balance aesthetics, cost, and the owner’s preference for the open, outdoor-like feel of the venue. The comments mark a notable shift after more than 15 years of the stadium’s operation without a permanent glare solution for NFL games.
