Johnson County Sheriff Adam King has been reindicted on two felony charges, nearly a month after his first trial ended in a mistrial.
A Johnson County grand jury returned the new indictment Wednesday, July 30. King surrendered Friday morning to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and remained in custody. Jail records showed no bond had been set on the charges.
King is scheduled to stand trial again beginning Nov. 9, when attorneys and prosecutors will select a new jury.
The longtime sheriff has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he abused his office by retaliating against a former employee who reported claims that King sexually harassed female employees. King has repeatedly denied the allegations.
His previous trial ended July 3 after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict following nearly three weeks of testimony. The judge declared a mistrial and did not disclose how the jury was divided.
King was first indicted in August 2025 on a felony official oppression charge. Prosecutors allege he retaliated against former Chief Deputy James Saulter, after Saulter reported the sexual harassment allegations.
Under previous court orders, King has been allowed to continue serving as sheriff while working three days a week and limiting contact with the alleged victims.
