When firefighters arrived at a mobile home fire in rural Johnson County this morning, someone started shooting at them. Johnson County sheriff's deputies responded and traded gunfire with the suspect. One deputy suffered shrapnel wounds to the face when bullet parts bounced off his ballistic shield according to the the Texas Municipal Police Association. He is expected to be okay. The suspect died in the shootout. At this time it is unclear if the suspect was connected to the fire. No names have been released, and the Texas Rangers have taken over as lead investigators.
The shooter is dead and at this time it appears there were no other injuries. The Texas Rangers have arrived on scene and will be leading the investigation.
