Just hours after parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly reached out to Colorado head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
Sanders has garnered attention for his success with the Colorado Buffaloes, who he led to a 9-4 record and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl this season. The team went 4-8 in his first season in 2023.
Prior to taking the job in Boulder, Sanders went 27-6 in three seasons as the head coach at Jackson State.
The Cowboys' head coaching position is one of the most high-profile vacancies in the NFL.
As far as a coveted job, I don't know that that's accurate," former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman said. "I do think the Cowboys are obviously a high-profile team. Whoever is head coach of that team is certainly going to draw a lot of attention, but I think most football people that take over as a head coach, they want to do it on their terms."
Other names reportedly in the mix include Kellen Moore, the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator, and a former Cowboys assistant; Aaron Glenn, a former Cowboy and the current defensive coordinator for the New York Jets; and Jason Witten, a soon-to-be Hall of Famer who is currently head coach at Liberty Christian School in Argyle.
