The jury decided to sentence, serial killer Jason Thornburg, to death on Wednesday afternoon.

Jason Thornburg has been sentenced to death after the jury returned its verdict within the last several minutes of discussion.

In arguing for life in prison, Defense attorney Bob Gill said Thornburg was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, sexually assaulted as a child, and has a mental disability. But prosecutor Kim D'Avignon said Thornburg knew right from right.

"There is no answer for justice other than the death penalty," D'Avignon said.

The jury has been off since last week and is expected to hear only a couple of days more of testimony against the 44-year-old Euless man. He has already been convicted of the mutilation murders of three people David Lueras, Lauren Phillips and Maricruz Mathis whose bodies were found burning in a Fort Worth dumpster.

Prosecutors are now asking the jury to sentence Thornburg to death. The defense team has tried to convince the jury that Thornburg was mentally ill when he killed three people in September of 2021, dismembered them, ate one of their hearts and then put them in a dumpster and set it on fire.

He said the killings were part of a sacrifice. Police say he has admitted to two other murders.
