One North Texas school district is closing its high school today because of a social media threat made specifically against that school mentioning today's date.
A letter has gone out to parents in the Kaufman School District saying Kaufman High School is closed today.
The threat is part of a national trend on the social media app TikTok referred to as "National Shoot Up Your School Day."
And it's not just happening in North Texas. Near Houston, the Fort Bend district told students to leave their backpacks at home today.
Police stress that there's been no concrete proof that anyone is planning school violence. But police put out a public statement saying starting or spreading false information about school safety threats could result in a hefty fine and jail time.
