The Mt. Gilead neighborhood of Keller is usually known for being a peaceful community. However, its residents are currently under attack.
The threat isn’t around the community though, it’s coming from above.
A red-shouldered hawk, which recently gave birth to three little babies, is currently attacking residents in an attempt to protect her nest from predators.
The hawk has attacked people multiple times over the past few weeks. Homeowner Daniel Schuman’s daughter has scars from a recent hit. “They’re pretty aggressive hawks,” Schuman told NBC DFW.
The hawk is even preventing some packages from being delivered to homes, due to the aggressive nature of its attacks. Residents have been instructed to pick up any packages at the Roanoke post office.
Those who need to venture outside are taking protective measures, including carrying umbrellas and even wearing helmets any time they’re outdoors.
The neighborhood is currently working with a wildlife biologist from the USDA to formulate a plan to have the hawks safely relocated.
