AT&T Stadium in Arlington will host the Professional Bull Riders World Finals this May, and Kid Rock has now announced he is partnering with PBR for a rodeo at the stadium leading up to that weekend.
Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo will take place at the stadium May 17. Six teams will compete in a head-to-head competition for a $1 million purse.
"I love all things western: rodeo, bull riding, the cowboy way of life," Kid Rock says. "Even though I'm more of a Detroit cowboy and not a real cowboy, I do appreciate the lifestyle and everything surrounding it, the class of people involved with it."
Kid Rock says he gained appreciation for the sport after playing at rodeos like Cheyenne Frontier Days. He says he wanted to create something different, and the event at AT&T Stadium can introduce a new audience to rodeo and bull riding.
"It's not about taking a paycheck up front, it's about trying to build something down the line, about trying to grow something I believe in," he says. "Right now, it just seems like one of, if not the last, great non-woke American sports."
Kid Rock will host a concert at the stadium around the rodeo May 17. Then May 18 and 19, AT&T Stadium will then host PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast – Championship, which is the final stage of a reformatted playoff-type event.
"If you want to appeal to a new fan, a new generation of fan, you've got to entertain them on their level and what they expect," says PBR Chief Executive and Commissioner Sean Gleason. "There's no better place to do that than AT&T Stadium in the heart of Texas. It's a big enough venue to barely hold this event."
"There's no better place to do it than the American Dream City here in Arlington," says Mayor Jim Ross. "What I'm excited about is when stuff like this happens, there are a lot of dreams that come true."
Ross says the city has found "newfound family" with PBR.
"You're going to have people realizing their dreams here at AT&T and here in Arlington, Texas," he says. "We could not be more proud of our newfound family with the PBR. They're no longer friends, they're part of our family. That's what makes the world go round."
