The city of Celina has honored the memory of Carrollton police officer Steve Nothem.

Officer Nothem was a resident of Celina, he died on the job in 2022. The city of Celina has now named a street, Nothem Way, in his honor in a new development in the fast-growing Collin County community.

Cristl Nothem attended the Sunday ceremonies, saying she is glad for anything, including the new street signs, that will keep her husband's memory alive.

Officer Nothem died in October of 2022 when he stopped his patrol car on the George Bush Turnpike to assist another officer in a DWI arrest. He died when an elderly driver slammed into the patrol car at a high speed.

The elderly man died at the scene and Notherm died later at a Plano hospital.

Since his death, Cristl Nothem and their four children have moved out of state to be closer to family.
