A semitrailer loaded with Kit Kat candy bars overturned on Interstate 20 in Brandon, Mississippi on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, shutting down an entrance ramp and drawing attention as the second major Kit Kat truck incident this year.
Mississippi Department of Transportation crews responded to the crash shortly after 2 p.m. near the intersection of I-20 and I-55. The truck was carrying approximately 11,000 pounds of Kit Kat bars. No injuries were reported, and authorities have not released the driver’s name or the cause of the overturn. Cleanup crews worked to remove the scattered chocolate and wreckage, with the ramp expected to reopen later in the evening.
The incident comes two months after a high-profile theft in Italy. On March 26, 2026, thieves posing as police hijacked a Nestlé truck near Turin carrying more than 413,000 special F1-shaped Kit Kat bars — roughly 12 tons — bound for Poland. That truck and its cargo remain missing, turning the brand into an online trending topic.
The Mississippi crash has quickly gone viral on social media, with many users joking about the string of unfortunate events involving the popular chocolate bar. While the two incidents are unrelated, the timing has fueled humorous commentary online.
Local authorities in Brandon urged drivers to seek alternate routes during the closure. No hazardous materials were involved, and the spill was contained without environmental impact beyond minor road debris.
Nestlé has not issued a statement on the Mississippi crash. The company previously confirmed the Italian theft and continues to work with international authorities on that case.
