Did an accused Dallas cop shooter get lost in the system of another state? He may be headed back after questions from KRLD news.
According to police reports, 19-year-old Redricous Lewis is one of three men accused of carjacking a Dallas Police officer near Bachman Lake in August. The officer was wounded in a brief shootout and police say it appears the thieves had no idea he was a police officer or that they were stealing an unmarked squad car.
All three male suspects involved in the case are from the Shreveport area. Two were eventually captured and brought back to Dallas, but the third, Redricous Lewis, was facing a firearm-drug charge in Louisiana.
That case has finally been disposed and Lewis was sentenced to, and sent to, a prison in Louisiana.
It wasn't until KRLD news called did the prosecutor's office in Louisiana realized Lewis was still wanted in Dallas County and called to notify prosecutors here that Lewis was done.
It's now up to Dallas County to seek extradition of Lewis to face charges in the officer-carjacking.
There could be a positive side to all of this, becuase once Lewis does stand trial, Dallas County prosecutors can use the firearms conviction as evidence in a sentencing hearing.
The other two co-defendants are in the Dallas County legal system and have court dates scheduled for next week.
