The Dallas Mavericks announced Tuesday that guard Kyrie Irving will not return during the 2025–26 NBA season as he continues to recover from ACL reconstruction surgery performed in 2025.
The team said Irving has made steady progress in rehabilitation and will remain actively engaged with the Mavericks for the remainder of the season. Irving called the decision “the right one” and said he is focused on returning stronger next season.
Irving said the decision was difficult but expressed gratitude to the organization, teammates and fans for their support.
