Large fire burns future site of apartment complex in Rockwall County

Several agencies responded to a fire at a construction site in Rockwall County on Tuesday morning, officials say.

The blaze was reported at about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at the site of a new apartment complex in Fate along Williamsburg Parkway, near the intersection of Interstate 30 and Memorial Parkway, officials said. The fire was under control by 8 a.m.

Fire departments from Royse City, McLendon Chisolm, Rockwall, Greenville, Garland and others, responded to the blaze.

Firefighters went house to house Tuesday morning to ask people who live near the fire to evacuate. No injuries were reported as of 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Students at Garcia Elementary School, which is near the fire, will still have class Tuesday, according to Rockwall ISD.
