Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching and that means more police out watching for drunk drivers.

The Irving Police Department has joined other law enforcement agencies in the DWI Enforcement Initiative which starts Friday and runs through Labor Day itself.

Police say the goal is to #endthestreakTexas by reducing daily roadway deaths in the state.

Officers will be focusing on areas that see a lot of drunk driving when the risk of alcohol-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities goes up.

Police have a simple request and that is if you go out and get drunk to have a plan in place that includes ride sharing, calling a cab, or a having a designated driver.
