Lewisville officer and his K-9 partner both retire today

LEWISVILLE (1080 KRLD)- An emotional day for Lewisville police, who are celebrating the retirement of a long-serving officer … as well as his K9 partner.

Police Officer Shane Menz is retiring alongside his K9 partner, Czico. Menz retires with 25 years of police experience— the last 17 years spent with the Lewisville PD. Czico has been with the department for 6 years.

“It’s beyond describable,” Menz says, “It’s a rollercoaster. It’s hard … last call killed me.”

A huge crowd turned out at a special dual retirement ceremony today, where they watched on during Menz’s last call.

Menz was also presented with various plaques and mementos, and Czico received a gift basket and his very own retirement cake.

Menz says retiring alongside his four-legged partner was always part of the plan.

“I knew that Czico would be my last,” Menz says.

The retired officer is officially adopting his K9 partner, and he says their next adventure involves working in the private sector.
