DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas Love Field and Austin Bergstrom will be two of the first four airports where the FAA will install new runway safety technology designed to prevent what the administration calls "runway incursions."
FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker says "...this cost-effective technology provides controllers with timely and accurate depictions of aircraft and vehicles on the entire airfield in all weather conditions."
The FAA will implement the Surface Awareness Initiative system at the first four airports by July. Besides Love and Bergstrom, that includes airports in Nashville and Indianapolis. Scores of other airports will receive it by the end of 2025.
